Maple Ridge Trout Opening Fishing Derby (Fishing Derby)

A cherished community tradition for over 60 years, the Maple Ridge Trout Opening Fishing Derby is one of the most wholesome family events in Metro Vancouver. Hundreds of trout are stocked in the park pond ahead of opening morning, giving anglers of all ages and experience levels a great chance of a catch. Prizes are awarded across multiple categories including biggest fish and youngest angler. Surrounding activities include face painting, a pancake breakfast, and family games that keep non-anglers entertained throughout the morning. This is a free, community-organized event that reflects the best of Maple Ridge’s outdoor spirit. Bring your rod, your rain gear, and your patience — the early bird gets the trout!
