About

Richmond Nature Park, spanning 200 acres, preserves a remnant peat bog habitat on Lulu Island, offering a serene escape in the heart of Richmond. It features four well-marked trails (Pond Trail: 0.35km, wheelchair-accessible; Time Trail: 0.83km; Quaking Trail: 1.6km; Bog Forest Trail: 1.8km) through bog, forest, and pond ecosystems, home to over 100 bird species, mammals like Douglas squirrels, and unique plants like sphagnum moss and wild blueberries. The Nature House interpretive center provides interactive exhibits, a gift shop, and naturalist-led programs, making it ideal for families, birdwatchers, and nature enthusiasts. The park supports education and conservation through the Richmond Nature Park Society.

Tips, tricks, & lifehacks

- Visit in spring to see hummingbirds and blooming bog flowers, or autumn for migratory birds and colorful foliage.
- Wear sturdy shoes, as trails can be muddy, especially after rain.
- Bring binoculars for birdwatching; feeders near the pond attract woodpeckers and chickadees.
- Check the Nature House for free trail maps and seasonal exhibit details.
- Parking is limited; consider public transit or parking on Shell Road if full.
- Stay on marked trails to protect the fragile bog ecosystem; pets are not allowed.
- Visit early morning for a quieter experience and better wildlife sightings.
- Engage with the naturalist at the Nature House for insights on local flora and fauna.
