This is a big one. Monday, August 3 is BC Day, a provincial statutory holiday, which stretches this into a four-day long weekend for most people. Metro Vancouver is packed wall-to-wall with things to do as a result, headlined by the biggest event of the summer: Vancouver Pride Weekend.
The Vancouver Pride Parade takes over Pacific Boulevard on Sunday, with the Trans March and Vancouver Dyke March also happening earlier in the weekend, and Summer Lights fireworks lighting up English Bay on Friday night to kick things off. Across town, the 50th annual Powell Street Festival celebrates Vancouver’s Japanese-Canadian community at Oppenheimer Park, while White Rock hosts its Sea Festival and Semiahmoo Days down at the water.
On the theatre side, Bard on the Beach and Come From Away continue in Vanier Park and at the Arts Club, Clue wraps up its run at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and Early Music Vancouver opens its summer festival with Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at the Chan Centre. At the movies, Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theatres everywhere on Friday. Here’s the full rundown.
